Introductory paragraph:
For my investigative video, I focused on the war between Microsoft and Sony.
The two companies have been going at each other as to who has the better console.
Microsoft has the Xbox Series X and Sony has the PS5.
In the video, I discuss what both Microsoft and Sony are, who founded both companies, how much each company is worth, why they are so competitive, and why they are always trying to one-up each other with big moves such as Microsoft buying Activision and Sony buying Bungie which I also cover in the video as well as the specs for both and what console is better.
Script:
My video project is on the Battle between Microsoft and Sony. I will start off by talking about what Microsoft and Sony both are, transition into who came up with both, and discuss why they are battling each other along with the specs of both the new PS5 and Xbox Series X.
What is Microsoft?
Microsoft is an American multinational technology corporation.
They do everything from computer software, consumer electronics, personal computers, and other related services.
One device Microsoft is most known for is its Xboxes.
From the original Xbox to the Xbox 360 to now the Xbox series X.
What is Sony?
Sony is a Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation.
They do consumer and professional electronic products.
Sony is arguably one of the largest video game console companies and the largest video game publisher.
Most known for their PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5.
Who came up with Sony?
The founders of Sony are:
Masaru Ibuka – Lived: Apr. 11, 1908 – Dec. 19, 1997 (age 89)
Akio Morita – Lived: Jan 26, 1921 – Oct 03, 1999 (age 78)
Who came up with Microsoft?
The founders of Microsoft are:
Paul Allen – Lived: Jan 21, 1953 – Oct 15, 2018 (age 65)
Bill Gates – Born: Oct 28, 1955 (age 66) – Still alive
Why are they so competitive?
Both companies have a different take on how they approach the market.
Sony takes the traditional route of making all new consoles every time. All with unique abilities and different specs.
Microsoft opts for a non-traditional route producing the same console each time but with upgrades to each making it a more affordable PC.
Both companies strive to be the best and make the most amount of money possible, taking very different directions for marketing and how they present their consoles.
Why did Microsoft buy Activision?
Microsoft two days after launching the new Xbox made a surprising announcement that shocked the whole gaming community they acquired Activision for 18.2 billion dollars.
This decision was first viewed as a greedy and lustful decision but was rather made to ensure the future of Xbox as one of the top gaming platforms.
Along with Activision as a whole Microsoft also acquired popular games such as the Call of Duty franchise which was one of the many names that came along with Activision.
Why did Sony buy Bungie?
In an unexpected turn of events, Sony made a 3.6 Billion dollar choice to purchase Bungie, a small independent studio group best known for Halo, Destiny, and OverWatch.
This decision came after Microsoft bought Activision. Sony says the purchase of Bungie was to be expected as the two were very close and it was likely at one point they were going to buy them out.
The real question everyone is asking is whether it is enough to compete with Microsoft’s purchase and was the purchase of Bungie due to the one Microsoft made regarding Activision?
