Everyone has their own opinions on whether video games are truly a positive or a negative but my overall goal is to showcase both sides and make sure people understand the overall idea of video games is to support a person’s health not harm. It is said by politicians and other social figureheads that video games lead to violence, anti-socialism, and sometimes death. These ideas are not true, video games themselves don’t lead to these heinous acts it’s outside forces mixed with the association of video games. If proper moderation of playtime is not there then it can lead to a bad mental state, but having a proper balance and proper amount of screen time versus real life is important to keep one’s mental health happy and stable and not wonky and depressed. Video games offer a lot of positives such as better well-being, better mental health, more social, more energetic, happy feeling, stress reliever, improved mechanical skills, improved eyesight, sense of belonging, joy, excitement. And many more benefits to help improve a person’s health. On the flip side, there are some negatives to video games if not properly managed can cause bad well-being, bad mental health, anti-social tendencies, bad physical health, depression, stress, emptiness, lack of ambition, lack of motor skills, bad eyesight, and aggression. The best way to balance life between real life and video games is to take breaks when feeling upset or angry, monitor how much you play, find your limit between fun and boredom, and most importantly don’t play competitively. Playing competitive causes a lot of stress of anger and can be the cause of aggression and depression, the feeling of losing constantly and being defeated can cause bad behaviors and can have a negative impact on one’s mental and physical health. That said everyone is welcome to their opinions as to whether video games help or hinder a person, understanding both sides and putting time into researching video games is crucial to fully understand the real purpose of video games. An example of video games helping people is strategic games, these games provoke problem-solving, first-person shooters (FPS) invoke teamwork, strategy, and communication to successfully carry out the task at hand. Pokemon Go is another great example, it enables the player to get out of the house and walk around to catch pokemon of all different types which involves physical activity.

Depression getting the best of a person’s mental state

It is said that video games cause violence and aggressive behavior; However, this information is obscured by politicians and other public figureheads. The majority of people neglect to put the time and effort into actually researching video games and if they help or harm. If people put the time and effort into actually researching and diving into video games they would understand that video games are a tremendous help and benefactor for good mental health and overall well-being. They offer many positive benefits all of which can help change a person for the better.
